This report encompasses the development of Australia-Latin America relations from a historical perspective. At the outset, a comprehensive definition of "Latin America" and the socio-econopolitical framework is provided to assist the general knowledge about Latin America before the Australia-Latin America relations and foreign policy is discussed. This is done in a chronological manner, in order of the key political, social, economic events that took place in Latin America. The importance of the political framework in particular is important when discussing the Australia-Latin America relations. It was innovating and interesting to discuss the relationship in terms of Australia's foreign policy. This is an area the academic scholars have not yet discovered, thus, it was challenging and limited in terms of resources. The fact was that Latin America was entirely out of discussion in Howard's foreign policy, and this was difficult to link back in terms of relationship. Thus, it was my analysis in Chapter 2 by observing Australian political climate derived from foreign policy under the Howard government. The shift in attitude under the new government was the most enjoyable part of the report. It was interesting to link the shift of political atmosphere under the Rudd government and the change of attitude towards Latin America. As a consequence, immense changes occurred in the relationship. The biggest challenge was dealing with broadness of the report. The purpose of this report is to grasp general understanding and knowledge in Australia-Latin America relations by examining the historical trajectory of Australian foreign policy. This report has historical perspective, but throughout the report, it contains much political views and analysis. By looking at how the significant changes occurred in the relationship, it will help in many ways to advance the future relationship.
